Construction activities for the Livable Communities Initiative Project is nearing completion.  J.W. Kelso Company Inc. has finished over 98% of the work.  All curbs and sidewalks are complete and all businesses are accessible.  The remainder of the work will be completed through intensive work efforts targeted at each of the three trolley stop locations along The Strand.  Additionally, the installation of trolley shelter lighting, wayfinding maps, and newly refurbished historical signage brings this portion of the project closer to completion.

AREA UNDER CONSTRUCTION

AS OF NOVEMBER 25, 2003

The remaining portion of the Livable Communities Initiative Program includes the installation of lighting, wayfinding, and signage throughout The Strand.

With the completion of brick paving at each intersection and finished sidewalks and ramps,  vehicular and pedestrian traffic has resumed normal patterns.
The fabrication of the three trolley map signage posts have been completed and are currently being installed adjacent to each of the trolley shelters.  These signage posts are similar in scale and construction to the existing structure across Harborside near 21st Street.  Each future trolley map will be installed within the center frame of the signage post and illustrate trolley routes and visitor destinations throughout the Historic District and Seawall Boulevard.

The Historical Signs have been recently completed and are being installed throughout specific areas along The Strand.  A Bargain Sign Company has recreated the graphic and textual images shown below to reveal the architectural and historical significance of each building.  The finish for each of the signs has been primed with a flat black coating to reflect that of the recently installed trolley shelter.
