Downtown Galveston Livable Communities Initiative Project Breaks Ground
Phase 1 Gets Under Way

On September 25th 2002, the City of Galveston proudly broke ground for Phase 1 of the Downtown Galveston Livable Communities Initiative (LCI) project. Shovels in hand, city officials, the many project team and committee members and interested citizens, all joined together to celebrate the culmination of several years of coordinated efforts and hard work.
It is expected that the improvements will take place over the next several months and will not interfere with the annual downtown events such as Dickens on the Strand and Mardi Gras. The design management and project supervision managers will stay with the project throughout construction process. A public information kiosk has been assembled at the Historic Downtown Strand Partnership office, located on 24th Street and The Strand where interested parties can review plans, photos and maps of the entire LCI project. Additional information can be obtained by calling 409-763-7080.
