Construction Bids Open

Bids were opened at city of Galveston offices on Tuesday, July 16, 2002. There was one successful bid in the amount of $1,174,000. by a local construction company, J.W. Kelso. “We are very pleased with the bid we received from the Kelso company. We expect Council to approve the contract by the next meeting and move forward with Phase 1 construction of the Project soon after that, says Fred Wichlep, Chairman of the Livable Communities Initiative committee.

Final approval of the contract between J.W. Kelso and the City of Galveston is expected to take place at the next July meeting. Once the contract has been approved, streetscape amenities, such as benches, trash receptacles, and bike racks, will be ordered and installed in places here there will not be any sidewalk construction. Expected groundbreaking date is mid-September, 2002,
